Internal DH?

After recent rumors of the Mets viewing options such as José Abreu or JD Martinez as a DH option, it is now been reported by SNY's Andy Martino that they are expected to internally fill the void. This is not surprising as just last month the Mets picked up the 2023 club option on last year's deadline deal Daniel Vogelbach to be the team's DH against righties. There are four main options for DH internally:

- Francisco Álvarez (The #1 prospect in all of baseball)

After being called up for the second to last series of the season and making a small impact, Álvarez was slightly disapointing but was judged unfairly after only a handful of games. Despite his defensive struggles and being in a positional logjam behind catchers James McCann & gold glove nominee Tomás Nido, it would not be a shock to see him on the opening day roster.

- Brett Baty (The #18 prospect in all of baseball)

Baty was called up mid-august after an injury happened to utility man Luis Guillorme. He batted only .184, but only played a measley 11 games. He definitely showed some promise as he hit two homeruns (including his first major league swing!) and had five RBIs. His rare opportunity was cut short as he suffered a season-ending thumb injury quickly after being promoted.

- Eduardo Escobar

All season long Escobar was above average against left handed-pitchers, but his average never showed as he struggled against righties. A great solve for this would be to make him the team's left handed DH. This allows #2 prospect Brett Baty to get reps in the field and at the plate, while not sacrificing the veteran's bat or even using him as a defensive replacement.

- Mark Vientos

Dating back to last offseason, the Mets have been stubborn about moving Vientos in a trade due to his potential at the plate, but at same time were not willing to call him up to the majors. His major downfall is that he is a liability in the field. He was up for almost the entire month of September and to say he was a disappointment is a bit of an understatement. Like Baty and Álvarez, Vientos did not get enough playing time to truly judge them, so slotting them in at DH to start the season would make complete sense.

I would definitely go with Baty! He is young and has massive potential. He is our 3B of the future!
