In last seasons CBA negotiations the MLB and MLBPA approved a new level of their luxury tax threshold dubbed as the "Steve Cohen Tax." This is the second straight season he has gone over the tax for the betterment of his team. This was fully to be expected, especially after first being told about the tax in an interview, Cohen responded with "It's better than a bridge being named after you." The New York Mets current team payrool is $333M. This will result in a $66M tax bringing the total bill up to $398M.
That $66M tax is more than the entire payroll of the A's, Pirates, and Orioles. But here is the thing, the Mets aren't done spending yet.
